Listen To New Nocturne Blue Track ‘The In-Between’

Listen To New Nocturne Blue Track ‘The In-Between’ : L.A. Electronic act debut new title track from 4-song EP.

Last year I was thoroughly impressed by the excellent cover of Yaz’s Winter Kills from L.A. electronic group Nocturne Blue, whose hypnotic sound Trip-hop Nation described as Classic Trip Hop in a spirit of Massive Attack and UNKLE. It’s a Magic formula: Broken rhythms, Hypnotic vocal and Emotional chorus

Well they’ve returned with an excellent new EP: The In-between, and I’m pleased to debut the North American première of the title track, which you can check out via Bandcamp below:

Frontman and chief sonic architect Dutch Rall, spoke to me about the genesis for both the new track and EP saying that it was: just me in full-on studio control-freak mode which I began as an exercise to see if I could still play bass and blend it successfully with electronics in a low-fi, goth, or post-rock context.

Rall was quick to point out that despite that song’s solitary birth, the EP was primarily a collaborative effort, featuring work by Adrian Belew bassist Julie Stick, and “touch guitarist” Markus Reuter (The Crimson ProjeKct, Stick Men): it’s me, Markus, and Julie essentially improving and recording live with the idea of creating moods for a long form audio/visual piece for next year.

The concept is still to blend elements of trip hop, post rock, dream pop, and experimental guitar in as many new and interesting ways as can manage for a soundtrack to a non-narrative “film” which can be performed live. This song is the first example of the three of us collaborating. We recorded many more pieces in this same session. I’m thrilled to be working with some of the best musicians on the planet.

You can preview/order The In-between EP via the band’s official Bandcamp page, or through the widget below.
