In an interview with Stereogum, Numan discussed the album’s difficult gestation, which has taken over seven years to complete;

“The album has gone from being something that I was terrified to start to being something that I’m extremely proud of, so it’s a fantastic kind of end result for me,…But the first few years were really difficult. I was on antidepressants for three years, and all that horrible stuff. I’m glad all that’s gone because that was no fun at all.”
