New Trailer for “The Wolverine” looks Ninja-tastic.
20th Century Fox has just released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Wolverine (sequel/prequel/do-over?) movie, and it looks promising. Clearly taking a page from the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller 1983 comic miniseries, “The Wolverine” takes Logan to Japan, where he battles hordes of Ninjas, fights the Silver Samurai and falls for his beloved Mariko.
If this all sounds like Greek to you, well then that’s good, because you should (hopefully) be pleasantly entertained by this classic storyline. Check out the trailer below:
The previous film, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine“, got pummeled by critics and fans alike. It was slightly unfair as it wasnt nearly as bad as reviews suggested, BUT it wasn’t great either. Personally I think fans felt so betrayed by “X-Men: The Last Stand“, that they were looking for “origins” to right the ship, which it failed to do sufficiently.
“The Wolverine” started off with good buzz, due to the involvement of director Darren Aronofsky (“Requiem For A Dream“, “Black Swan“). But when he bowed out, fanboys began worrying again. It’s now in the hands of a more than capable director (James Mangold of “3:10 To Yuma” and “Walk The Line” fame), so I’m cautiously optimistic this will deliver for comic nerds and film fans alike. Jackman continues to defy his age as he looks as ripped and menacing as ever.
The X-Men universe has been reinvigorated ever since 2011’s excellent prequel “X-Men: 1st Class.” It also has a sequel in development, “X-Men: Days Of Future Past“. The stakes are even higher there given the return of prodigal director Bryan Singer, and an ambitious melding of the earlier and current X-cast via time travel. Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role for that film as well, with his character remaining the biggest and most enduring character in the franchise.
So give the trailer a look and sound off on your opinion below.
