Watch New Video For Chelsea Wolfe’s ’16 Psyche’: atmospheric vocalists brings doomy bliss for retro music video.
Doom/Shoegaze chanteuse Chelsea Wolfe has just premiered the new video for 16 Psyche, the first single off her upcoming album Hiss Sun (due September 22nd via Sargent House), which you can check out via YouTube below.
The video is a loving throwback to classic 90’s alternative videos like Nine Inch Nails’ Closer: featuring smoke machine drenched visuals, faceless figures in some nameless, nightmarish institution, and Wolfe rocking out front and center, captured by a fish eye lens.
The 120 Minutes-esque video, directed by Zev Deans, features an appearance from former tour mate (and Queens of the Stone Age guitarist) Troy Van Leeuwen (no stranger to classic alt-rock videos like A Perfect Circle’s Judith) who applies his sinewy, sludgy guitar magic to the track.
In a press release for the new album, Wolfe discussed how Hiss Spun was forged to escape the stress of our current 24 hour news cycle: I wanted to write some sort of escapist music; songs that were just about being in your body, and getting free. You’re just bombarded with constant bad news…it seems like the world has been in tears for months, and then you remember it’s been fucked for a long time…since the beginning. It’s overwhelming and I have to write about it.
Chelsea Wolfe will kick off a support tour (with neo-industrial darling’s Youth Code as openers) on August 17th. Check out the full tour dates below.
