Watch the Lollapalooza 2013 lineup on YouTube all weekend.
It’s finally here; the 2013 Lollapalooza lineup kicked off last night at Chicago’s Grant Park.
For those too broke or distant to check out the festival, I feel your pain. But all is not lost; YouTube will be streaming the entire festival all weekend long. Click below to watch Day 2 and the following link for Day 3:
The festival got off to a soggy start with a rainy Friday, but it didn’t slow down the festivities. Hipster favorites Icona Pop played their annoyingly catchy tune ‘I Love It’ to a receptive crowd, but fans were really excited for the headliners:
Queens Of The Stone Age played a blistering set, and often mercurial frontman Josh Homme seemed downright chipper (or perhaps just sarcastic); “I kind of like the clouds…It’s a beautiful day and everyone is looking so fantastic.”
New Order played a great set despite singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner recently breaking his leg. He even did some limited mobility dancing! (attn: Morrissey; what’s your excuse for cancelling an entire tour? Man up!)
As I stated in my review of their Dallas show, the departure of bassist Peter Hook was more a nostalgic blow than a performance flaw. Fans ate it up.
The Killers were another anticipated act, even though they’ve had a strained relationship as of late. Drummer Ronnie Vanuchi fessed up to some bad blood amongst the members in a recent USA Today interview: “For some people, they don’t really want to think about planning the next two years. For me, it’s like a food group. It’s very hard to slow down from a train like that. But at the same time, it’s a real bum-out to be around people who aren’t wanting to be there. So you can’t force it, otherwise it just ends up being a bad time for everybody.”
But the act that was a must-see for the day, was the reconstituted Nine Inch Nails, playing new tracks off their upcoming album ‘Hesitation Marks’ including single ‘‘Came Back Haunted” and classics such as “March of The Pigs” off landmark album “The Downward Spiral.”
Today’s lineup seems a tad lackluster compared to Friday, with more subdued acts like Mumford and Sons, Lumineers and The National. But tomorrow will be a great day for goths, and would be an ideal rainy day scenario, as The Cure will be headlining in the evening.
