Tidalwave ‘1992’ Review

Alt-rock revivalists Tidalwave are back with ‘1992’ their latest EP (released May 13th via Bandcamp).

The band’s (American transplants now based in Germany) three song assault continues their brand of catchy, economical head nodders that began with their 2015 self-titled album.

‘1992’ is certainly an an appropiate title, as the EP hearkens back to the era of Grunge and rough-hewn rock. The anthemic title track, sets the template with a restrained verse/bombastic chorus combo that makes for an aggressive earworm.

‘Ride’ is another slab of heavy yet melodic rock, with a lumbering riff augmented by airy guitar florishes and voclaist Dean Tidalwave’s sonorous pipes.

‘Saturate,’ the third and heaviest track, is perhaps the standout: starting off with a taut groove and off-kilter chorus, eventually culminating in shredding metal vocals.

Tidalwave have the soft/loud alt-rock dynmaic down pat, with meticusolus tight arranegemnts. Melodic hard rock is in short supply these days, making them a weclome addition to 21st centiry musical landscape.
