But lest fans think they’ve signed off on being a nostalgia act, frontman Jim Reid discussed new music plans in a new interview with NME. Reid addressed the delay given the band officially reunited in 2007: “We’ve got the material, we’ve talked about doing an album for so long now. We thought we’ve got a bunch of songs, this would make a pretty good Mary Chain album’ – and then there was the usual slaps and scratches between my brother and myself….the usual shit basically.”

It appears the biggest issue has been committing to a recording time, and central location: “At the time when the band got back together my kids were very young and William lives in LA and wanted to record out there, and I didn’t want to go and spend months away from my family. But my kids are a bit older now and I’m kind of in the middle of a divorce, so it seems like a good time to get the hell out of town.”

Beyond that, firm details are vague. He wisely didn’t give a timestamp so that JAMC fans didn’t get their hopes up for a 2015 release. But you never know.

If this comes to pass, it will be the band’s 7th album, the last being 1998’s ‘Munki.’ Their last recorded output was for the 2008  single ‘All Things Must Pass’, which appeared on the soundtrack to the NBC superhero hit ‘Heroes.’

Following a run of dates in November of last year, which saw them playing 1985’s ‘Psychocandy’ in full, the band will tour the album again in the UK from next week.
