The Cult Announce New Album ‘Hidden City’

The Cult Announce New Album ‘Hidden City’, Release New Song ‘Dark Energy.’ Band’s 10th studio release due early February.

British Alt-rock veterans The Cult will release their new album ‘Hidden City’ on February, 5th 2016. The release will be their tenth studio album, and the fifth with longtime producer Bob Rock. They’re streaming the first single ‘Dark Energy’ on NME (or you can listen via the embed below).

Frontman Ian Astbury discussed the new album with NME: “I find today’s gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it’s a new phenomenon. My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart.”

This should sound familiar to Cult fans used to his shamanistic, return-to-nature intent, and that’s fully present on the new tune.

My first impressions? It has a strong 70’s glam feel with its waltz beat and guitarist Billy Duffy’s strident boogie riff. Astbury’s voice sounds in fine form.

‘Hidden City’ will be the band’s first album with bassist Grant Fitzpatrick, replacing former bassist Chris Wyse.
