Monuments is the first album since the band’s 2012 effort Oceania, and the first release to feature Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee on drums. Also on hand is Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder. The album is produced by Howard Willing, who previously worked on the 1998 album Adore.

First impressions on my end, is that Corgan sounds refreshed and there are some definite sonic hooks throughout, in particular on Tiberius, One and All , Dorian and Drum and Fife.

And while it may be a solo effort in the eyes of many (as Corgan is the sole original member) it provides that he still has some life left in him beyond rants against Anderson Cooper (justified IMHO) and owning a wrestling ring. It will be interesting to compare the album with Day For Night, the album the band has in the pipeline for 2015.
So take a listen and tell us your thoughts on Monuments to an Elegy? I’ll have a full review up later this week, followed shortly afterwards with a ranking of the band’s albums from best to worst. We shall see where this album falls in the pecking order.
