Stream Nine Inch Nails ‘Hesitation Marks’:
UPDATED: Click here for my Hesitation Marks review.
Nine Inch Nail’s new album ‘Hesitation Marks‘ is almost upon us. And Trent Reznor is whetting fans appetites by streaming it free on iTunes a week before its Sept 3rd release date.
Click here to listen. Make sure to click on the artist page, and that you’re using the current version of iTunes.
The stream follows hot on the heels of previously released singles Came Back Haunted, Copy of A and Everything, as well as a full tour rehearsal set.
The new album features guest performances from Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham (which certainly sounds intriguingly unusual) and King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew.
Reznor co-produced the album with frequent collaborators Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder.
In a new interview with Spin magazine, Reznor gives a frank, engaging interview, where he discusses his currently positive mental state, which is miles away from his tortured 90’s persona:
“For some reason, when I started working more on Hesitation Marks, I started thinking back romantically about who I was when I was writing The Downward Spiral…I was looking back on who I was then and who I am now and how things have turned out, for better or worse. That was the air the new record was born in. I was looking at the other side of how I was not always honest about who I was in the ’90s — and I knew I wasn’t being honest — and if you sprinkle those negative feelings with some drugs and alcohol, it’s usually not a recipe for success.”
Moulder discussed Reznor’s new approach in the article: “We tried not to do the classic Nine Inch Nail things on the album…The old trademark with Trent was that when we got to the chorus, the songs go up a step, he sings in his highest range possible, and a million guitars come in. We tried to do the opposite on this one. The choruses actually go down; the sound is more withheld than explosive, which is a much harder thing to do.”
