Stream New Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds Album ‘Push The Sky Away‘ in full via The Guardian.
Exciting news for Nick Cave fans; the singer and lyricist extraordinaire will be releasing a new album with his backing the band The Bad Seeds next Tuesday. It’s the band’s first release since ‘Dig Lazarus Dig‘ in 2008.
The Guardian U.K. is streaming their new album “Push The Sky Away” in entirety on their site. (Click here to listen).
I’ve given it a listen and first impressions are strong. This has all the hallmarks of a Cave classic, with lyrics of damnation and redemption, the sacred and profane, and a dark somber vibe not dissimilar from their classic album “Murder Ballads.”
I’m digging the electronic minimalism of ‘We No Who U R’ and the heartbeat bass and piano driven ballad ‘We Real Cool.’
Fans of his recent project Grinderman may wish he’d rock out a tad more; this is stately and melodic. But it still has the rough edges that make the band’s sound unique. (Both bands will take the stage at Coachella this year).
They’ve also released a video for the single ‘Jubilee St‘, which you can check out via Pitchfork. It’s directed by John Hillcoat, who Cave has worked with on the movies ‘The Proposition‘, ‘The Road‘ and ‘Lawless‘ (he wrote the screenplays and scores for all three).
What are your thoughts on the new album? Take a listen and comment below.
I’ll have a review posted once I have time to let it all soak in.
And stay tuned later this week when I’ll be reviewing a new album from another Aussie Alternative Rock veteran; a new solo album from Steve Kilbey of The Church.
