At first listen, ‘Patrol’ signals a return to the band’s acid-rock early days, more concerned with trippiness than arena riffing.
It’s also marks their first album since the departure of lead guitarist Ed Mundell, who left shortly after the recording of ‘Mastermind.’ He’s been replaced by Garret Sweeney.
Band leader and frontman Dave Wyndorf also talked to Noisey about their return to their more psychedelic garage rock roots:
We were playing the older albums in Europe, Spine of God and Dopes to Infinity in their entirety and that went over really well. So it all made sense to me. I went, “Oh, you dumb ass. Why don’t you go write a psychedelic record?” So I went all-out and made a weird, little record. I kept it home grown and paid very close attention to the vibe and made sure it wasn’t overproduced. It’s something I can be really happy singing a million times over.
In addition to putting out a new album, the band will embarking of their first U.S. tour in 10 years. Tour dates are listed below.
11/14: Grand Rapids, MI @ Intersection
