Stream New Iggy and The Stooges Album ‘Ready To Die’, their first album since 2007’s disappointing comeback album ‘The Weirdness.’
Iggy and The Stooges aren’t releasing their new album ‘Ready To Die‘ on April 30th (on Fat Possum Records), but they’re giving fans an advance stream courtesy of NPR’s website.

By most accounts, their 2007 comeback album The Weirdness was universally reviled. It seemed listless, the lyrics sounded tossed off and it was lacking the raucous, dangerous energy that made the band a force to be reckoned with in the first place.

Live they’re still nailing it (check out my review of their performance at Riot Fest last year), but are they a band best left as a legacy act? Must the phrase ‘here’s a track off our new album‘ be met with a cringe?
What makes ‘Ready To Die‘ of interest and a possible improvement is the involvement of guitarist James Williamson and drummer Scott Asheton, both of whom rejoined the band after ‘The Weirdness‘ was released (and who haven’t made an album with Pop since 1973’s punk precursor ‘Raw Power‘ . Can they bring that pun intended ‘Raw Power‘ back to their sound? Well give the stream a listen and see what you think.
Thus far I do think it’s an improvement, but I’m not rushing to judgment just yet. In typical Iggy style his lyrics straddle the line between genius and stupid ‘I’m on my knees for these Double D’s‘ is one of the real clunkers off of (naturally) the song ‘Double D’s!” Oh Iggy.
