Well time flies when you’re having fun they say…which is why it seems crazy that Smells Like Infinite Sadness celebrates its third birthday today!
This blog has been a labor of love, a bit of trial and error, and a sounding board for all my pop culture obsessions…and it appears to be paying off.
When I wrote about our 2nd birthday, I noted that traffic was on the rise, and it’s more than doubled since that post. And that feels pretty great.
We’ve even been cited on music entertainment sites like Blabbermouth, Ultimate Classic Rock and hosted our first contest giveaway.
Interviews have been one of the driving traffic sources and are my greatest pleasure as a blogger, and last year featured high-profile artists like Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens, The Melvins’ Buzz Osborne, Failure’s Ken Andrews, Monster Magnet’s Dave Wyndorf, The Grassy Knoll’s Nolan Green, punk legend Sonny Vincent, and wait for it…DANZIG. And he was nice!
These conversations have been surreal and enlightening. Talking the nuts and bolts of creativity with my musical heroes has been fascinating. And reminiscing about the glory days of the DFW 90’s alternative scene with the Toadie’s Doni Blair was a blast.
But I’ve also made a conscious effort to engage with new artists who carry the flame of alternative rock, including Steve Brooks from Torche and The Last Internationale (to name but a few).

I’m also still going strong with my Examiner column, have written another article for Cracked, as well as becoming a contributor to UK based entertainment site Itcher Magazine.
On the frustrating end, I’ve still yet to tackle a podcast and make some merch. Those are two ventures I’m keen to do, just finding the time has been tricky. I’ll keep you posted.
But all these musings, lists and opinions would exist in a void without you, and I truly thank everyone who has checked out this blog, shared it with others, chimed in with your comments, supported our advertisers (every bit helps!), and kept me abreast of new artists and events.

I’m really glad I found your site a couple of months ago. I feel a kinship because we are approximately the same age and have a lot of overlap in our musical taste. I can tell both of us were listening to some of the same stuff in those formative years in which (to borrow a Therapy? lyric) stuff get’s “tattooed on your brain”.
I’ve found your articles and interviews to be well done and insightful. (There is a real dearth of that particularly when it comes to heavier music.)
