SLIS 2013 Ultimate Halloween Party Playlist: Impress your party guests with this Halloween Playlist of frighteningly great tunes.

When I made last year’s Halloween playlist, I figured I’d covered it all. I had alternative, punk, goth, metal , soundtracks, and classic rock dark and creepy classics that offer a perfect soundtrack to a music lover’s Halloween party.

But ever since then, I’ve thought of a bunch of equally great tunes, from all the aforementioned genres that will be perfect additions to your Halloween jams.

Below is an iTunes playlist of all my new choices, so just click on a track or preview or purchase. And if you’re wondering about certain tracks that don’t exactly scream Halloween by the artist or song title, I’ll give insight into those left-of-center choices below the playlist.

So some background on my more unorthodox choices;

I chose Looking For The Magic  by the Dwight Twilley Band because it’s the maddeningly catchy song played throughout recent horror flick You’re Next (click here for my  review).

I chose Upstairs by Gene Loves Jezebel because it references Psycho; Upstairs a voice is calling must be Mother, Holding me so tenderly, obviously my lover.

And Death On Two Legs by Queen references Psycho as well. The same with Beastie Boy’s Egg Man which samples the shower murder theme.

In addition to being morbid in general, People Who Died was played in the closing credits of the Dawn of The Dead remake.

Primus’s My Name is Mud references Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part Two; Dog will hunt!

In addition to being a creepy goth tune, Fields Of The Nephilim’s Vet For The Insane samples Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead.

Frankie Teardrop by Suicide is one of the most frightening songs ever recorded, about a man who flips out and kills his family. This song is so creepy, you might want to save it for last when you’re ready for people to leave. Very intense!

Pulp’s Wickerman is a loose homage to British Horror film The Wicker Man. And Sneaker Pimps (remember them??) How Do, is a cover of the song performed by Britt Ekland in the film.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was played during the intense final scene of Manhunter, Michael Mann’s movie adaptation of horror novel Red Dragon.

And Ted Just Admit It by Jane’s Addiction was an indictment of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.
