Billy Corgan has released a YouTube clip featuring 30 second snippets of upcoming Smashing Pumpkins album Monuments to an Elegy which you can check out below:
In the past few weeks the band released the album tracks Being Beige, and One and All, but hearing the rest of the album, even in truncated form, gives a better sense of the album’s scope. The album was recorded with Corgan, guitarist Jeff Schroeder and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee.
It feels akin to the band’s most recent album, 2012’s Oceania, as well as Adore and Machina: The Machines of God. There are some passages akin to Corgan’s band Zwan as well. First impressions: opening track Tiberius appears to be the heaviest track on the album, Both Anaise and Run To Me have New Wave worthy keyboards and Anti-Hero is a strident bit of power-pop.
Here’s the full Monuments to an Elegy track listing:
1. “Tiberius”
2. “Being Beige (World’s On Fire)”
3. “Anaise”
4. “One And All”
5. “Run2Me”
6. “Drum And Fife”
7. “Monuments”
8. “Dorian”
9. “Anti-Hero”
Only time and a full listen will determine how Monuments To An Elegy ranks against the band’s back catalogue, and the band’s fans detractors will likely be having many passionate debates on the album’s merits. I’ll post a full review upon the album’s release.
