Muse to Play London Olympic Closing Ceremony. Pink Floyd too?

//-->

UPDATED:

Well dumb ass NBC decided not to air Muse. Or the Who for that matter. So I suffered through the Spice Girls and some crappy pop for nothing. The Pink Floyd high-wire thing, Lennon and Bowie tributes were kinda cool, but I’m super pissed and NBC’s given me one less reason to watch their crappy channel.

Brit glam/prog rockers Muse not only contributed the theme to the 2012 Olympic games with “Survival”, but now they confirmed they’ll be playing the closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympic Games this Sunday.

A very savvy move given their next album “The 2nd Law” will be released October 2nd, giving them a chance to expand their already formidable fan base.

But according to the Calgary Herald, there will be some surprise acts. Rumored to appear are George Michael and The Spice Girls (Uh yuck), Adele (meh), Kate Bush (hit or miss) and most interestingly, a possible performance by Pink Floyd?

Ed Sheeran (I have no idea who this kid is)  said that he’d be performing “Wish You Were Here” with the band. Pink Floyd vigorously denied the rumor, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true, or perhaps it would just be one or two members (I would not count my breath on Roger Waters and David Gilmour playing together again anytime soon.)

Other possible performances include members of the Who, Queen, Annie Lenox, The Manic Street Preachers and The Clash amongst many others (you can see more speculations in the article).

All in all, looks like “28 Days Later” and “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle has made every effort to make the London Olympics a seismic event and probably the hippest ceremony in recent memory (minus George and The Spice Girls). And given the high viewership it’s a success. Too bad I missed most of it as I’ve been on vacation stuffing my face in New Orleans, but I’ll for sure be tuned in Sunday.

You can preview or buy Muse’s “Survival” by clicking on the widget below. I’ll be sure to review “The 2nd Law” upon its release.
