Listen to New Public Image Ltd. Song ‘Double Trouble’

Pil

Public Image Limited return

Listen to New Public Image Ltd. Song ‘Double Trouble’: band releases first single off forthcoming album ‘What The World Needs Now’.

Creative inspiration often comes from the unlikeliest of places. And that is certainly true of PiL’s new song Double Trouble, borne from an argument John Lydon had with his wife over fixing a broken toilet. Listen to it via Soundcloud below.

Lydon revealed as much in a recent interview with Rolling Stone saying “That was my fatal mistake. It was presumed from there on in that I would repair it every single time, every toilet I came in sight of…. I’m not Johnny Perfecto in the toilet department. I know how to break them.”

The song will be featured on the group’s upcoming album What The World Needs Now, which is set for a September 4th release, and will be followed by a European and North American Tour.

It’s somewhat atypical for the group, with punkish feel more akin to Lydon’s seminal punk band The Sex Pistols or the skronk-funk of Gang of Four than Public Image Ltd’s mix of reggae/dance and proto-industrial leanings. And it also features one of his more entertainingly unhinged vocal performances.

I made it clearly known I was not a fan of the band’s 2012 comeback album This Is Pil, but perhaps this track points to a more worthwhile follow-up. We’ll just have to wait and see.
