Listen To New Afghan Whigs Song ‘The Lottery’; the second single from upcoming new album ‘Do To The Beast’ hearkens to their early work.
The Afghan Whigs and SubPop records have released the second track for their upcoming comeback album ‘Do To The Beast’ (due for release April 15th).
Whereas the previous track ‘Algiers’ had a spaghetti western feel that was atypical for their sound, ‘The Lottery’ sounds akin to their early work on albums like ‘Gentlemen’ and ‘Black Love’, with guitar work that evokes the style of absent original guitarist Rick McCollum (the new album will feature several guitarists).

There’s even a slight feel of U2 or The Church in the echoing guitar lines. Greg Dulli’s familiar rasp still works handily with the dark stew of grimy alt rock and sleazy soul that the band creates. I’m digging both tracks, and can’t wait to hear the full album.
So give The Afghan Whigs ‘The Lottery’ a listen and tell us your thoughts? Are you excited for the new album? How do you think the new tracks stack up against their back catalogue?
