Faith No More début new track ‘Cone Of Shame’ at Tokyo gig.
Faith No More debuted a new song at concert this week in Tokyo. The track, entitled Cone of Shame is dark and simmering, with a mix of bluesy shuffle and angular guitar figures.
Mike Patton alternates between creepy omniscient whispers, soulful bellows, anarchic shrieks, and a melodic refrain that recalls classic FNM track We Care A Lot.
Whereas some Faith No More fans expressed confusion at the out-of-left-field first single Motherf***er, Cone of Shame falls more in line with the traditional band sound.
As always it’s hard to form a solid opinion of a song when first played in a live setting: blown out acoustics wash a song’s layers of sound away, but it sounds promising. And leave it to Patton to reference a Pixar movie for a moody tune.
It falls in line with bassist Billy Gould’s recent statement on the new album: Hypnotic and gothic, we’re coming back to where we were with our first album.
Cone of Shame will be featured on Sol Invictus, the band’s first new album in 18 years, which is due out May 19th on the band’s own Reclamation Records (to be distributed on Patton’s Ipecac Recordings).
The album release will be preceded by a second single, entitled Superhero, which will be available on vinyl March 17th and digital download on March 31st.
The band will embark on their first expanded U.S. tour since 1998 this Spring. The initial shows, sold out so quickly that the band has attempted to circumvent ticket scalpers. More North American tour dates are expected later this year.
So take a listen to Cone of Shame and tells us your thoughts? And stay tunes to SLIS for all updates Faith No More this year.
