Jarvis Cocker To Speak At SXSW 2014: Britpop frontman to lecture about the craft of songwriting.
2014 SXSW Attendees who consider themselves Britpop fans will be might excited by this announcement; Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker will be giving a keynote speech at 2014 SXSW Music Conference.
Cocker will be discussing his formidable lyrical and songwriting gifts in a presentation that will also include lyrical illustrations, and will discuss his evolution as a songwriter.
Or as the SXSW official site proclaims: “Join us as Mr. Cocker presents an illustrated selection of his lyrics detailing his development as a songwriter and provides useful tips for aspiring songsmiths.”
He’ll be conducting a Q&A session with aspiring songwriters as well.
Equally exciting, will be the SXSW Film Series première of Sheffeld: Sex City, the new Pulp documentary. The doc will look back on the beginnings and milestones of the Britpop luminaries who languished in semi-obscurity for years until their breakout working class 90’s anthem Common People, which catapulted them to worldwide fame.

No official release dates has been announced beyond the festival screening.
Cocker has been fairly quiet on the music front. His last major musical moment was Pulp’s bombastic performance at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival. His duties have largely consisted of being Editor at large for Faber Publishing. Perhaps this appearance will foreshadow some upcoming musical output? Fingers crossed.
If you want to catch Jarvis Cocker in person, arrive EARLY, because it’ll fill up quick. He’ll be speaking on Wednesday, March 12th at the Austin Convention Center in Room 18ABC to be exact.
Are you excited by this announcement? Are you as bummed as me at how difficult this will be to attend? Stoked to see Sheffeld Sex City? Tell me in the comments.
