Episode 3: Dave Wyndorf discusses group’s stripped-down politically fuelled album on this week’s podcast.
This week on the SLIS podcast we’re talking to a very special guest: Dave Wyndorf, the founding member and frontman of stoner rock icons Monster Magnet.
I spoke to Wyndorf about the group’s new album Mindfucker (click here for my review), an album which he describes as originally designed as a rock-for-rock’s-sake album, before being influenced by the results of the 2016 presidential election, which resulted in lyrics that were the product of a guy trying like hell to be upbeat but bending towards cynical humor, all-out rage and a touch of despair.
In this episode, Wyndorf expands on how current events shaped the album’s lyrics, as well as the musical influences behind the new album, Monster Magnet’s 2018 touring plans, his views on the 24 hour news cycle, and much, more in our free-wheeling discussion.
Wyndorf, IMHO, is one of the smartest and most engaging rockers out there, a philosophical and insightful guy who is one of my favorite people to talk to (you can also check out my 2015 interview with him by clicking here). He’s outspoken, articulate and very good-humored.
