Danzig Celebrates Band’s 25th Anniversary with Concert Tour…
UPDATE: Read my review of Danzig’s Austin Show.
Exciting news for Danzig fans: 2013 marks the 25th anniversary of the band Glenn Danzig formed in 1987. And to celebrate they’re hitting the road.
The first leg will be U.S. dates, followed by a European tour.
Adding extra enticement, Misfits bassist Doyle will be in tow, so expect some Misfits tunes in addition to the bluesy goth-metal hits.
The openers for the tour will be metal band the Agonist, and Punk-Sludge Metal pioneers Corrosion of Conformity.
The latter seems a perfect choice, given both band’s mix of punk and metal.
Having seen Danzig on several Blackest of The Black tours, I’m relieved to not have to sit through endless black metal bands that don’t have the groove, melody or swagger that Danzig has always delivered. This should be more fun for his hardcore fans.
Below are the tour dates. I’ll be catching the Austin show at Stubb’s, but I imagine this’ll be a hard sell for some locals given his diva-like tantrum on 2011’s Fun Fun Fun Fest, when he took the stage late and caused concert goers and promoters some major headaches. I’ve always caught him on good nights, so hopefully this’ll continue.
Despite his massive ego and self-parodic persona, hearing the dude wail is always a fun night.
No word on his band’s current line-up. We can all wist nostalgically for a reunion of the classic line-up featuring John Christ, Eerie Von and Chuck Biscuits, but doubt that’s gonna happen. If not, I hope that Tommy Victor (of Prong) will be on guitar duties given my love of his style.
We might hear several covers in his set, given he’s releasing an album of covers later this year (which will feature Runaways vocalist Cherrie Currie in some capacity). If there’s anything as good as his Bowie cover it’ll be sweet.
You can get more info on the tour via Blabbermouth.com and full dates of the U.S. Tour are listed below.
Tickets go on sale February 22nd.
