Batman’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Plans Revealed; The Dark Knight turns 75 on March 30th, 2014. And Warner Bros. and DC Comics will celebrate his birthday in grand style.
I’ve noted a lot of album and movie birthday/anniversaries lately, but all pale in comparison to the 75th birthday of my all time favorite superhero and role model; Batman.
Be sure to click here for Why Batman Is The Best Superhero Ever after you read this piece, as I detail why he remains timelessly cool.
The Caped Crusader turns 75 on March 30th, and parent companies DC Comics and Warner Bros. will give him a year-long birthday bash, with tons of cool stuff for Batman fans to devour.
In addition to their new Batman75.com website (and its spiffy logo, featured above), here’s a list of what they have in store (I’ll have Amazon product links where available at bottom of post):
- At long last, the 60’s Adam West Batman TV series will finally be released on DVD/Blu-ray
- Will produce a host of commemorative comic books. Most prominent is the recent special edition of Batman’s first appearance in 1939’s Detective Comics Issue 27. There will also be a Batman:Eternal series starting in April.
- Lots of new Batman animated films including Son of Batman, Assault On Arkham and new Batman shorts from BTAS creator Bruce Timm and comics artist Darwyn Cooke.
- On July 23rd, participating comic shops will host Batman Day, offering a days worth of festivities and a free Batman comic.
- The Cape/Cowl/Create art exhibit will appear at July’s San Diego Comic Con, featuring 20 comic artists interpretation of the Dark Knight Detective, all of which will be included in the upcoming Batman Arkham Knight video game.
- Produce what I fear will be awful; Gotham; a Smallville style FOX series about life pre-Batman in Gotham City.
- Produce a ton of new Batman collectibles based on the 60’s show as well as other classic interpretations of the character.
- Release a 25th anniversary edition of Tim Burton’s original Batman movie this fall.
- And finally, commence shooting on Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman/Batman film.
