Watch: The Veldt’s ‘One Day Out of Life’ Video, New EP Gets Worldwide Release: soulgaze rockers release new video from atmospheric EP.
Last year I had the pleasure of reviewing ‘The Shocking Fuzz of Your Electric Fur’ Mixtape EP, the 2016 release from “soulgaze” pioneers The Veldt, who returned from a long absence to magnificent effect.

And now the EP, which was originally just a digital release, received a recent worldwide release via Schoolkids Records on June 2nd, available in a variety of formats.
To help commemorate the occasion the band has also released a video for the single ‘One Day Out of Life’ (Andrew Prinz/ Mahogany Remix), a hypnotic track awash with New Wave 80’s textures and dream-pop atmospherics, which you can watch via YouTube below:
The new video and EP release follows the Record Store Day release of the 7-inch ‘Symmetry / Slow Grind’ last April.
The video sees band frontman Daniel Chavis reuniting with video director (and childhood friend) NiiLartey De Osu (founder of the New York-based Neodandi House of Couture), as stated in the group’s press release:
“The concept behind the new video is NeoIllusion, an artistic movement seeking to unite spirit and form as a unifying vision of experience and presence, and to create a visual representation of memory by focusing on the interaction of what we see and what we remember,” explains NiiLartey De Osu. “In this case, the idea is that, wherever you go and wherever you are, you reveal many forms of yourself and these forms are recorded in the memory of a loved one.”

This has been a particular fertile period for the band, helping to expand their sound and audience, with the group finally receiving long overdue critical acclaim: in addition to sold-out tours with Phantogram and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, the group have also been namechecked by the likes of Pitchfork magazine (gaining a spot on their list of best shoegaze albums), The Guardian and Stereogum.
It seems that the shoegaze scene has re-emerged with a vengeance, with new albums from Slowdive and Ride showcasing the durability of the genre, making this the perfect time for the uninitiated to fall in love with The Veldt, who deserve to be held in the same high regard.
