Smashing Pumpkins Debut New Song ‘One and All’

Today the Smashing Pumpkins released One and All, from their upcoming album Monuments to an Elegy. This follows last month’s release of new track Being Beige. The track premiered on the Huffington Post.

Frontman and sole original member Billy Corgan told the media outlet that “I basically sang the whole song the first time I wrote it. It had written itself.”

Whereas the latter featured the band at their more understated, One and All is a heavier rocker, featuring the saturated distortion that weighed heavy in their 90’s heyday. In addition to featuring collaborator and guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drum duties are handled by Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee. The album is due for release on December, 9th, 2014.

Listen to One and All below:

Earlier this week Corgan wrote a blog post, which detailed his frustration with follow-up album Day for Night (due for release next year): “DAY FOR NIGHT, I’ve claimed, is to be something different, advanced somehow in it’s pop-rock-dark-glory. Good: in theory; hard to execute; and that’s nobody’s fault but my own.”

Corgan also gave veiled reasons for the departure of former drummer Mike Byrne: “Byrne has taught me a lot about his generation…And watching the twitch up close, the ADD of it all, I’m starting to understand what he found boring about The Mighty SP. He wasn’t wrong. But he also wasn’t right, too.”

What exactly he was detailing, could just as easily be general frustration with millennials as a direct attack on the young drummer, but it continues to crystallize that Corgan remains a mercurial presence, and one whose never above stirring up the hornet’s nest to conjure public interest and bemusement. He remains one of the most polarizing, yet fascinating figures in rock.
