Smashing Pumpkins Adore Reissue Details Revealed

Smashing Pumpkins Adore Reissue Details Revealed: deluxe edition of band’s dark opus will include six discs, including rarities and a concert DVD.

Fans of the Smashing Pumpkin’s dark gem Adore can rejoice; today frontman Billy Corgan announced news of the long-in-the-works deluxe reissue today on the band’s official site.

In addition to new stereo and mono mixes of the 1998 album, there will be an additional three discs of bonus material, making it one of the band’s most jam-packed deluxe editions (Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness being the ultimate example).

Corgan expanded upon these details by saying; One thing that might excite fans of the album is that we were able to go back and locate elements from the original sessions that were stored digitally, but never used; such as some of the brilliant work done by Bon Harris…In that, fresh mixes have been commissioned, shedding new light on not only the song’s hidden foundations, but their futuristic nature as well.

Included in the package will be a concert DVD from the band’s 1998 charity tour.

Adore had a mixed critical response upon its original début in the late 90’s, and was one of the biggest commercial duds in the band’s catalogue.

But as I discussed in my list of Most Underrated Alternative Albums, there is a dark charm to its goth-pop tone that hardcore fans responded to and appreciated. Corgan would explore more of those somber textures on his solo album The Future Embrace and on the latest Pumpkin’s 2012 album Oceania.

The reissue is set for a summer release. This is the latest in a flurry of news about the Smashing Pumpkins, as Corgan recently announced the band is working on two new albums for 2015, and is posting weekly updates on the new material.

He’s also set to release the double solo album AEGEA in the next few weeks.
