Slowdive Reunite For Primavera Sound 2014

Slowdive Reunite For Primavera Sound: Dream-pop group will play alongside Pixies and The National.

Slowly but surely, shoegaze is coming back into vogue. Last year saw My Bloody Valentine’s first album since 1991’s Loveless.

And now its been confirmed that dreampop act (and Creation label mates) Slowdive are also reforming. They’ll be playing the second day of Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona Spain on May 30th, behind headliners The Pixies and The National.

The band made the announcement via Twitter, saying simply; Slowdive are back.

An interview of the band will be up on The Quietus tomorrow, but the site gave a few teasers today; singer guitarist Neil Halstead gave some insight behind the reunion; The initial impetus was the idea of doing some new music. It seemed easier to do that because it’s not so public. But then we thought it would be good if we could raise a bit of money to make the record, and doing a couple of gigs would enable us to do that. And that’s the way it shaped up – while we’re rehearsing we can see if we’ve got another record in us.

Bandmate and co-vocalist Rachel Goswell (both of whom were in the excellent alt-country group Mojave 3) commented on the groups lasting impact; The fact that the music we made still stands up today and is influencing new bands says a lot and that makes me feel very proud of what we did. There seems to be a lot of love out there for Slowdive, which is nice.

I’ve always thought Slowdive were a band that never got their just due; a chillier, more tangible strain of dream-pop that owed as much to goth as ear bleeding feedback, so I’m excited to see them return and get some more appreciation this time around.
